There is something magical about a soft colour fade in crystal-clear gel wax. This pink and black ombré candle combines modern elegance with surprisingly simple techniques, making it a beautiful project for experienced candle makers and adventurous beginners alike.

- iLite vessel
- Penreco Gel Wax
- HTP wick
- Wick sticker
- Black gel wax dye
- Pink gel wax dye
- Diamond Sparkle Dust
- Snug Life Fragrance Oil
- Heat gun
- Thermometer
Step 1: Prepare the Vessel
Secure the HTP wick in the centre of the clean iLite vessel and keep it straight with a wick bar.
Step 2: Pour the Black Layer
Melt the gel wax according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Add a small amount of black dye until you achieve a translucent charcoal colour. Stir in a light sprinkle of Diamond Sparkle Dust and then add your recommended fragrance load of Snug Life Fragrance Oil.
Carefully pour the black layer into the vessel.
Allow it to cool completely until fully set.
Step 3: Create the Ombre Effect
This is the trick that gives the candle its signature look.
Using a heat gun, warm only the top surface of the cured black layer for about 30 seconds. You want just the top few millimetres to liquefy while the rest of the layer remains solid.
Step 4: Pour the Pink Layer
Tint a fresh batch of gel wax with a soft translucent pink and add Snug Life Fragrance Oil.
Slowly pour the pink gel wax over the softened black layer.
As the two layers meet, they’ll naturally blend together, creating a smooth ombré transition without mixing the entire candle.
Step 5: Cool Completely
Allow the candle to cool undisturbed. Trim the HTP wick to approximately ¼ inch before lighting.
Tips for Success
- Keep both colours translucent so light shines beautifully through the candle.
- Don’t overheat the black layer. Only the surface should become liquid.
- A tiny amount of sparkle dust adds elegance without making the candle cloudy.
- Pour the pink layer slowly to preserve the smooth fade.
