A fresh summer candle that’s as beautiful to look at as it is to burn.
There’s something magical about a flower that appears to float on crystal-clear gel wax. This elegant design is surprisingly simple to create and makes a stunning gift, wedding centerpiece, or seasonal décor piece. The soft blue gel paired with a realistic daisy creates a peaceful, spa-inspired aesthetic that’s perfect for spring and summer.
In this tutorial, we’ll recreate this candle using Candlehaven supplies.
Supplies You’ll Need
- Straight-sided clear glass vessel
- Gel Wax
- Electric Blue Wax Dye Chips
- Sweetheart Silicone Mold
- Pillar Soy Wax (BW-921)
- HTP Wick
- Wick sticker
- Heat gun
- Fragrance Oil Blossom of Spring
Step 1: Prepare the Daisy
Using the Sweetheart Silicone Mold, pour melted Pillar Soy Wax (BW-921) into the mold.
Allow it to cool completely before removing it.
The daisy should be firm enough to handle without bending.
Step 2: Prepare the Wick
Thread an appropriately sized HTP wick through the center of the daisy.
Secure the wick to the bottom of your glass vessel using a wick sticker.
Use a wick bar or clothespin to keep the wick perfectly centered.
Step 3: Melt the Gel Wax
Slowly melt the gel wax over low to medium heat.
Avoid stirring aggressively, as this creates bubbles.
Heat until completely clear.
If desired, add fragrance according to the manufacturer’s recommended usage rate.
Step 4: Tint the Gel Wax
Add a very small amount of Electric Blue Liquid Dye.
You’re looking for a soft, watery blue, not an opaque color.
Gel wax is at its prettiest when light can still pass through it.
Step 5: Pour the Candle
Allow the gel wax to cool slightly before pouring.
Pour slowly down the side of the vessel to minimize trapped air bubbles.
Continue pouring until the gel reaches just beneath the top rim of the glass.
The daisy should naturally rest on the surface while the wick remains anchored through the center.
Step 6: Remove Surface Bubbles
After pouring, use a heat gun for just a few seconds across the surface.
This helps remove tiny bubbles and leaves the gel looking beautifully clear.
Don’t overheat the candle.
Step 7: Cure
Allow the candle to cool completely without moving it.
Trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch before lighting.
Tips for Success
- Less dye creates a more elegant, glass-like appearance.
- Pour slowly to keep bubbles to a minimum.
- Make sure the wick remains perfectly centered while the gel cools.
- Pillar Soy Wax works wonderfully for molded embeds because it releases cleanly from silicone molds and holds crisp detail.
- This design also looks beautiful in blush pink, lavender, seafoam green, or crystal clear gel.
Customize Your Candle
This technique is incredibly versatile. Try creating floating:
- Sunflowers
- Roses
- Cherry blossoms
- Water lilies
- Poinsettias for Christmas
- Hearts for weddings or Valentine’s Day
Simply change the molded topper and gel color to create a completely different look.
