● Candlehaven gel wax
● Fall wax dye chips
● Twilight Harvest fragrance oil, subject to confirmed compatibility with your gel wax
● Haven candle vessel
● HTP wick in a size tested for your finished candle
● Your chosen container wax for the creamy white top layer
● Wick adhesive suitable for your candle application and a wick centering tool
● Heat-safe pouring equipment, a thermometer and a digital scale
This is a design guide rather than a fixed formula. Wax weights, processing temperatures, fragrance percentage and wick size must follow your materials’ instructions and a tested recipe for the complete candle.
Why this candle looks so beautifully autumnal
The colour combination does the decorating. Orange takes centre stage, golden tones add warmth, and green near the base brings a little contrast. Through the clear glass, the gel gives the design a sense of depth that an opaque wax candle won’t have.
The white top creates a quiet break above those rich colours. We love the clean version without a topper: the body of the candle already has plenty to say.
Step 1: Prepare your vessel and wick
Start with a clean, dry Haven vessel. Secure your selected HTP wick at the centre of the base and use a centering tool to hold it upright.
Choose the wick size through testing with the exact vessel, wax combination, fragrance and dye amount you plan to use. An HTP series name alone isn’t a finished wick recommendation.
Step 2: Plan your fall palette
Aim for an orange-led design with golden warmth and a smaller amount of green toward the bottom. Keep the making video nearby as your visual reference for where the colours belong.
Use small, weighed amounts of dye and record them. It is much easier to repeat your favourite shade when “a little bit of orange” has an actual number attached to it.
Step 3: Prepare the gel wax
Heat your gel wax with temperature-controlled equipment, following the instructions for its specific grade. Monitor the temperature with a thermometer and use colourants confirmed suitable for that gel.
Prepare the separate colours shown in the video, allowing the dye to dissolve evenly. Stir gently to limit extra bubbles. The goal is autumn under glass, not a fizzy drink with a wick.
Step 4: Add your fragrance using a gel-specific formula
Twilight Harvest brings together green leaves and pear, followed by plum, cinnamon and sugar, with smoke and sandalwood in the base. It is a lovely match for this autumn palette.
Before adding it to gel, confirm its compatibility with your gel supplier. Follow the fragrance limit and mixing instructions for your exact gel grade. A fragrance’s general candle usage percentage should not be carried over to gel wax, and flash point alone does not establish compatibility.
If gel compatibility has not been confirmed, keep the gel portion unscented and use the fragrance only in a compatible top wax, within that wax’s limits and a tested complete formulation.
Step 5: Build the coloured candle body
Follow the video’s colour placement and pouring sequence to create the green base and orange-led body. Use your gel’s recommended pouring conditions and appropriate setting time between pours where the design requires it.
Keep the wick centred as you work, and leave space for the white wax top and the vessel’s required headspace. Record the weight of each coloured portion so you can reproduce the balance later.
Step 6: Finish with the white wax top
Once the gel portion has set sufficiently for your tested layering method, prepare your selected container wax according to its own instructions. Add the white top without disturbing the design underneath.
Keep the surface simple and smooth. Those autumn colours deserve their moment without having to compete with a large decoration.
Step 7: Let it set and test the finished candle
Allow the candle to set and condition according to the materials you have used. Trim the wick according to your tested candle-care instructions before lighting.
Burn-test the complete design before gifting or selling it, including how it behaves as the white layer melts and the burn progresses into the gel. A pretty first light is only the beginning of the test.
Keep styling leaves outside the vessel and away from the flame. They belong in the photograph, not in the melt pool.
