Why This Candle Works
One of my favourite things about this design is the contrast.
The rich golden gel layer catches the sunlight beautifully while the soft lemon EcoLux layer adds a creamy, luxurious finish. Instead of looking like a typical outdoor candle, it feels like something you’d find in a boutique home décor shop.
Then come the little gel hearts.
Tiny details like these instantly elevate the finished candle and make it feel handmade in the very best way.
Sometimes it’s the smallest details that make people stop scrolling.
Layering Creates Instant Luxury
Layered candles never seem to go out of style.
For this design, I poured the gel wax at an angle to create movement before pouring the EcoLux layer in the opposite direction. Those intersecting lines create depth and give the candle a custom, artisan appearance without making the project overly complicated.
It’s one of those techniques that looks impressive but is surprisingly approachable.
The Secret Ingredient? Citronella Fragrance Oil
When people hear citronella candle, they usually picture something plain sitting beside a barbecue.
There’s absolutely no reason it has to look that way.
Using premium fragrance oils allows you to create candles that are both practical and beautiful. This citronella fragrance oil gives you the classic outdoor scent while the finished candle feels far more elevated than anything you’d find in a big box store.
Don’t Skip the Cotton Wick
A beautiful candle still needs to burn beautifully.
For this project I chose an HTP 1312 cotton wick, which pairs wonderfully with this wax combination and vessel size.
Choosing the correct cotton wick is one of the most important parts of successful candle making. Every wax behaves differently, which is why proper testing is always worth the effort.
