The inception of Candlehaven.ca is a story that is close to my heart. It takes me back to a time when, as a young girl, I was utterly captivated by the art of candle-making, a skill that I inherited from my mother. My mother was a remarkable artist with a knack for creating beautiful things, and I remember looking up to her in awe as she worked. I would stand next to her on a stool, watching as the candle wax slowly melted into liquid in a double boiler on our kitchen stovetop, soon to transform into a symbol of tranquility and serenity.
I was completely entranced by the process: how we would set up the wicks, choose the vessels for our candles, add color and fragrance oils, and finally, the sparkling embellishments. Each step was carried out with such precision, resulting in candles that were as unique as fingerprints, far surpassing anything that could be bought off a shelf. Lighting these homemade candles would cast a magical, welcoming glow that transformed any room into a cozy sanctuary, each one a testament to the love and warmth that my mother and I poured into them.
My home, modest as it was, became a haven filled with love, serenity, and the comforting glow of our homemade candles. The sense of ‘home’ became forever intertwined with the soft flicker and soothing fragrance of these candles.
As I navigated through the different phases of my life, moving from one home to another, one thing remained constant – the magic of candles. I sought to recreate the sanctuary of my childhood, applying the lessons I had learned from my mother in my own candle-making process. I kept up with the times, replacing the paraffin wax of my childhood lessons with modern alternatives such as soy wax and luxury coco apricot crème wax. This change not only improved the aesthetic of my candles but also ensured they were natural, clean-burning, and environmentally friendly.
My passion for candle-making eventually morphed into a desire to share the joy and fulfillment it brought me.
